Acknowledgments and Data Sources

1000Mobiles relies on various reliable data sources to provide current information about smartphone updates, security updates, and end-of-life periods. We would like to thank the following projects and organizations for their valuable work:

End of Life Date – Open Source Database for Update Cycles

endoflife.date is an outstanding open-source project that systematically collects and processes update cycles for smartphones and other technology products. The platform offers:

  • Comprehensive data on Android smartphones and iOS devices
  • Transparent information about operating system updates and security updates
  • Historical data for analyzing manufacturer policies
  • Community-supported updates for maximum accuracy

This data source enables us to provide reliable information about support periods for various smartphone manufacturers including Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola, and Nokia.

EPREL – EU Product Database for Energy Labelling

EPREL (European Product Database for Energy Labelling) is the official European product database of the EU Commission for energy labelling. The database provides:

  • Official EU regulatory data for smartphones and tablets sold in Europe
  • Minimum requirements for security updates according to EU Regulation (EU) 2023/1669
  • Sustainability information on repairability and spare parts availability
  • Transparent product information for consumer protection

Since the introduction of the EU Ecodesign Regulation for smartphones and tablets, manufacturers must guarantee at least 5 years of security updates. EPREL officially documents these commitments and provides consumers with reliable information when purchasing smartphones.

This data source is particularly important for European users as it documents legally binding minimum standards for smartphone updates.

Xiaomi Security Response Center

The Xiaomi Security Response Center provides transparent and clear information about update cycles for Xiaomi smartphones and their subsidiary brands. The platform shows:

  • Detailed update schedules for MIUI/HyperOS
  • Security update status for all Xiaomi devices
  • Android version updates and their availability
  • Information about Poco, Redmi, and other Xiaomi sub-brands

This official source enables us to provide precise data on the support duration of Xiaomi devices, which is particularly important as Xiaomi is one of the world's largest smartphone manufacturers.

Why Are These Sources Important?

The combination of community-supported open-source data (EndOfLife.date), official EU regulatory data (EPREL), and manufacturer-provided information (Xiaomi MISRC) enables 1000Mobiles to provide the most accurate and current information about:

  • Smartphone update cycles
  • Security update periods
  • End-of-life dates for mobile devices
  • EU compliance and consumer protection
  • Sustainability information for environmentally conscious purchasing decisions

Our Contribution

1000Mobiles aggregates, processes, and visualizes this data to provide consumers with a central resource for information about the longevity and update support of smartphones. We believe that transparent information about update cycles is essential for:

  • Sustainable purchasing decisions
  • Extended device usage periods
  • Strengthening consumer protection
  • Promoting e-waste reduction

We thank all mentioned projects for their important work and contribution to greater transparency in the smartphone market.
